Classical literature denotes the revered literary masterpieces from the ancient Greek Roman and other such early civilizations. The corpus of classical literature encompasses the oeuvre of eminent literary figures such as Homer Ovid and Sophocles. The aforesaid phrase is not solely employed within literature. The corpus encompasses a diversity of literary genres comprising but not limited to epic lyric tragedy comedy and pastoral. At a certain point in history the acquisition of knowledge in the aforementioned literary disciplines was deemed a mandatory pursuit for individuals who were pursuing studies in the humanities. According to scholarly belief the most esteemed writers of antiquity hailed from the regions of India Greece and Rome. The examination of their labor has conventionally been interpreted as an indication of elevated scholarly attainment. While these literary works may still occasionally be included as part of the mandatory reading material for English classes in secondary and post-secondary education there appears to be a noticeable decline in their utilization within contemporary classrooms as they are rarely examined or even perused.
