Apple growing is of great economic importance to Brazilian and world production. As one of the fruit trees of temperate climate origin with high added value fruit attention is focused on developing research to solve current and future problems. The Phytotechnics group at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation - Embrapa Uva e Vinho Temperate Climate Fruit Growing Experimental Station in Vacaria-RS led by researcher Dr Fernando José Hawerroth in partnership with UNESP Botucatu with the help of Professor Dr Sarita Leonel and other companies in the sector are developing techniques applicable to apple orchards in the Campos de Cima da Serra region of Rio Grande do Sul.
