Cultural Perceptions of Foreigners Working in Rio de Janeiro

This book describes a cultural study focusing on the barriers and difficulties foreigners encounter while working in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. It concerns a qualitative study based on face-to-face interviews with foreigners and Brazilians working at several different companies. All interviewees work and/or live in Rio de Janeiro. The study started with a thorough revision of literature concerning Culture Brazilian Culture Organizational Culture Multicultural Experience Communication and Negotiation. The gathered interview data indicates that foreigners working in Brazil can experience various barriers difficulties problems and challenges. However cultural differences lead to many positive aspects of working in Rio de Janeiro as well. Foreigners tend to adapt their working style by time. The longer they reside in Brazil the more they “Brazilianize”.
