The topic of this book is the analysis of culturally subversive elements in the lyrics of three songs by The Rolling Stones. Of further importance is the examination of the public response to these elements. After a short review of The Rolling Stones'' history and the timeframe (the 1960s) relevant to the book the meaning of the term cultural subversion is defined. This is followed by several examples of negative public reactions to popular music in chronological order from the time before and after 1969. In the book''s main chapter the lyrics of Let It Bleed Sympathy for the Devil and (I Can''t Get No) Satisfaction are analyzed. The literary dimension of the lyrics is the main focus of the analysis while its historical contexts are taken into consideration where applicable. The rhyme schemes are also examined especially in those cases where they support the subversive elements of the lyrics.
