Cyclosporine A reverses immunoendocrine damages induced by ketoconazole

In this study we based in the utilization of 2 treatments (Ketoconazole and the Cyclosporine A) and 3 behavioral tests (Plus maze Morris Water Maze and Forced Swimming). Ketoconazole (KTCZ) an orally active antifungal was chosen in our study with its neuro-behavioral properties (antidepressant and anxiolyic) and physiological (inhibitory effect on ganads and adrenals). Cyclosporine (CsA) a powerful immunosuppressant had a significant impact on transplant medicine. Its molecular action has been well defined in T cells and involved inhibition of critical signalling pathways that regulated T-cell activation. In this study we demonstrated that the treatment of male Wistar rats by high dose ketoconazole causes anxiolytic and antidepressant-like behavior. Nevertheless these behavioral effects are associated with testicular damage adrenal and thymus. Co-administration of cyclosporin A (CsA) restore partially or completely the domages.
