Daily calcium intake in postmenopausal women in Senegal

About The Book

The positive effect of calcium intake on bone health is widely accepted based on experimental preclinical and clinical data. Calcium contributes significantly to the development and maintenance of a bone structure capable of resisting mechanical stress and therefore to the prevention of fractures. Thus the prevention of osteoporosis requires among other things an adequate daily intake of calcium. In Senegal the acquisition of osteodensitometry equipment and the first studies carried out show the reality of osteoporosis. In this book the authors report on a preliminary study that assessed the daily calcium intake of postmenopausal Senegalese women from their basic diet.
