Dalit Communities in Their Indigenous Culture - A Sociological Study of Saraj Area in Jammu Region

The book “DALIT COMMUNITIES IN THEIR INDIGENOUS CULTURE- A SOCIOLOGICAL STUDY OF SARAJ AREA IN JAMMU REGION” is about to analyse the caste hierarchy of various Dalit communities in their indigenous cultural setting in the locale of Saraj area of Chenab Valley in Jammu region. The study proves that traditional customs a backward economy and upper caste assertion have marginalised Dalit communities. Hence they are facing a high incidence of marginality among all populations in the area. The entire study is based on a field survey conducted at the village Rajgarh of District Ramban J&K. During field work the researcher has used Ethnography Participant Observation Case Study Methods Focus Group Discussion Field Notes and Extensive long Interviews as tools and techniques of data collection. The contemporaneous findings of the study show that society is still drenched in caste norms. Women children and the elderly are suffering due to multiple socio-economic issues in the region.
