Dances of Switzerland

<p>This book gives a fascinating account of</p><p>Switzerland's rich heritage of dance and song</p><p>- a heritage to which all the four races of the</p><p>Swiss have contributed their varying shares.</p><p>The clog dances of the Alpine cowherds and</p><p>their well-known yodelling songs the simple</p><p>flowing Valse Frappée of Geneva and the gay</p><p>Lüderen Polka have been part of Swiss village</p><p>life for many hundreds of years.</p><p>These and many other dances and their place</p><p>in Swiss folk life are described by the author</p><p>in an introductory essay; in addition four</p><p>typical dances are selected for more detailed</p><p>description with music and step-notation</p><p>and four delightful colour plates show the</p><p>correct costume for each.</p><p>Mlle. Witzig was General Secretary of the</p><p>Swiss National Costume Society and had</p><p>always had a love of the old Swiss customs</p><p>and folklore; her Society has done much</p><p>good work in the preservation of dance and costumes.</p>
