Data Transmission in Digital Video Broadcasting Systems

About The Book

This book deals with the broadcasting of both global and local content in terrestrial television systems. Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) is a widely adopted standard for terrestrial television transmission delivering both global and local content. While global content is network-wide local content is region-specific and typically requires additional spectrum when transmitted using separate frequencies. To enhance spectral efficiency and cost-effectiveness hierarchical modulation within a Single Frequency Network (SFN) enables both content types to be embedded into a single constellation and transmitted simultaneously. Additionally a Selected Subcarrier (SS) technique is proposed where only a subset of orthogonal carriers transmits local content avoiding interference with global content while allowing flexible regional broadcasting. Collectively these innovations offer a robust spectrally efficient solution for advanced DVB systems enabling improved coverage and adaptability for both local and global content delivery.
