Decision-making processes in local communities in Egypt

The book contributes to the current debate regarding achieving local communities’ development in Egypt through either centralizing or decentralizing the decision-making process. After the raise of voices the debate glowed between revolutionists and the country’s representatives on the Egyptian system. The book aims to analyze the current planning system and compare it with international theories on the involvement of the citizens in the planning processes. It starts by reviewing the international theories in particular those by Arnstein Booher Innes Margerum and Grey in order to understand the special relation between authorities and participation of the public. And thereforeconcludes those theories in six key elements to make this relation efficient and effective enough. They came as the following; Diversity interaction cooperation and coordination between local councils local community and other stakeholders. In addition to the decisions made by consensus planning the laws and regulations that support the public integration in the planning process.
