He also witnesses love trust and sacrifice in ways he never knew possible and he emerges from his Balkan hell a changed man.</p><p></p><p>Deep in the Place of the Dead is a story of survival daring betrayal and sacrifice.</p><p></p><p>**<strong>Author's note</strong>: Aspects of this book are based upon the totality of my experiences in combat and interacting with people who have conflicting motives values and morals at work. Both the best <em>and the worst</em> of those past relationships are represented in my fiction. Tailored to my hero's experiences there are graphic descriptions of death and brutalities of battle. Likewise my characters' use of language and profanity mirrors wartime reality.</p>
