The Defence of Lucknow by A Staff Officer is a diary recording the daily events during the siege of the European Residency from May 31st to September 25th 1857. The author an officer of the Staff of the Anglo-Indian Army was present in Lucknow throughout the siege. The diary provides detailed accounts of the events that transpired within the garrison during this period. The book includes a plan of the Residency and was published in London in 1858 by Smith Elder and Co. The authenticity of the diary is vouched for by the publishers who have made alterations to include the most recent list of casualties and an eloquent dispatch by Brigadier Inglis.
