Degenerative complications of diabetes in Moroccans with diabetes

About The Book

Diabetes is one of the major public health problems that places a heavy burden on health care systems in all countries as well as on the families of diabetic patients. In the long term uncontrolled diabetes generates micro and macro-vascular complications most often diagnosed at an advanced stage which makes their treatment difficult. The aim of this study was to estimate the frequency of diabetic complications and to study the associated risk factors among diabetics in Eastern Morocco. Our sample was 64.7% female. 32% of the patients had one or more complications; retinopathy was the most frequent complication (16.8%) followed by nephropathy (12.4%) cardiovascular disease (5.4%) neuropathy (3.6%) and diabetic foot (2%). Age duration of diabetes and high albuminuria were the main risk factors for the development of diabetic complications in both types of diabetes.
