In the resistance against BrIt'sh rule the ancient city of Delhi played a pivotal role. The First War of Independence “ the Ghadr of 1857 was launched from Delhi. The bomb outrage in Chandni Chowk in 1912 captured Indias imagination and motivated Har Dayals Ghadr Party in California. In 1945 the trial of Subhas Chandra Boses Indian National Army officers at the Red Fort in Delhi wrecked the despotic BrIt'sh Empire worldwide. And the Indian tricolor was hoisted at Delhis Red Fort on 16 August 1947.</p><p>The history of Indias independence movement is also the story of everyday common folks in Delhi. Between 1857“1947 there were countless Dilliwallahs “ old and young mothers and fathers daughters and sons poor and rich “ who acted with courage and conscience in a world falling apart around them. They came from all walks of life and were the truest reflection of India. The silent selfless and spirited revolutionaries of Delhi made extraordinary sacrifices for Indias liberation. We must not forget these nameless faceless and unsung women and men even as their achievements slipped into yesteryears shadows. Their audacity brilliance creativity and devotion brought freedom to millions and changed the course of world history. </p><p>We remain inspired by their martyrdom.
