Democracy Under Siege

<p>After the election of Donald Trump in 2016 a president elected without winning the popular vote our country's figurehead became a man with an affinity for racism misogyny homophobia white supremacy etc. with no regards to the cruelty that is inherent in each.</p><p></p><p><strong>America is better than that.</strong></p><p></p><p>And every other day came a new abomination only to be replaced with another outrage at a rate that even the press couldn't keep up. The parallel to Hitler's rise became so stark that many felt the need to sound a clarion call.</p><p></p><p>I think this tradition of writing of drawing out a common humanity is indispensable to our future if only because what must be cultivated and cared for must first be seen.</p><p>-Ta-Nehisi Coates</p><p></p><p>The essays within these pages are a humble attempt of drawing out a common humanity and bearing witness to our democracy's battle against the forces of fascism.</p>
