This book answers the question of whether administrative capacity has an influence on democratic promotion democratic consolidation and whether there are feedback mechanisms. It examines the relationship between administrative capacity and democracy with quantitative methods. The results suggest that higher levels of administrative capacity reduce the probability of a democratic setback in democracies and stabilize democratic as well as autocratic regimes making democracy promotion more difficult. Furthermore the results indicate that there are no feedback mechanisms from democracy to administrative capacity.
