Humphrey Gilbert-Carter (18841969) was the first academic director of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden from 1921 until 1950. In this book first published in 1924 Gilbert-Carter gives examples of informative labels that could be used in botanic gardens ''so as to give information as well as pleasure to as many people as possible''.
