Determinants of broiler consumption in Ouagadougou

Broiler chicken is not widely consumed by households in the city of Ouagadougou. The level of consumption varies depending on whether it is an ordinary day or a ceremony. Indeed 22% of households consume broiler chicken on an ordinary day while 34% consume it during ceremonies (religious ceremonies end-of-year celebrations etc.). However regardless of price only 5% of households prefer broiler chicken over bicycle chicken. The most relevant reason for choosing chicken is taste (86%) with price (8.4%) being a less important reason. In addition socio-economic factors such as level of education income level and cooking method of the chicken significantly influence consumption of broiler chicken.
