Determinants of Cattle Supply and the Role of Ethio-sudan Cross-border Trade

The Amhara region in general and North Gondar Zone in particular have high cattle resource potential. Cattle are also the major sources of income for both the household and the country economy. As a result in light of the economic importance of the livestock sector for the region as well as the country; the foreign exchange earning potential of livestock and meat exports and the strategic importance considerable potential for an increased production of these animals in the region. The study conducted in Metema woreda results reflected that several factors were responsible for supplying cattle to the market. To identify the determinant factors the respondents were evaluated their attitude against different socio-economic and demographic variables.
