Development & Evaluation of Ocular Drug Delivery System for Pink Eye

About The Book

Rationale of the work was to improve the pre-corneal residence time and sustain the drug release by utilizing the approach of in-situ gelling systems using various polymers. The main objective of the work was to formulate and evaluate in-situ ocular gelling systems(pH induced) for the delivery of Ketorolac tromethamine for treating allergic conjunctivitis. In conclusion it was stated that the objective of the study was met. The in-situ gel forming system could have good patient acceptance because it is easy to instill and gradually erodes by dissolution of the gel avoiding the need for removal. The long residence time of the gel formed in situ along with its ability to release drug in a sustained manner was achieved. Hence it can be concluded that in-situ gels prepared with the drug (Ketorolac Tromethamine) are a viable alternative to conventional eye drops by providing longer residence time and sustained release of medicament to the eye.
