Development of Alternate Paragraphs

The purpose of this study is two-fold: to develop an equivalent set of stories for the Logical Memory (LM) subtest for the Wechsler Memory Scale-Third edition and to establish alternate-form reliability of these stories in a young adult nonclinical sample. Equivalent test forms circumvent the confounding influence of practice effects. Moreover the Logical Memory subtest of the Wechsler Memory Scale Third Edition contains no equivalent form. The purpose of the present study therefore was to develop an equivalent form and establish alternate-form reliability of this form. Ultimately the revision was determined to be psychometrically equivalent to the original Logical Memory subtest. Clinical use of this equivalent form is recommended to eliminate serial testing artifacts when reevaluating verbal memory in neuropsychological patients.
