DEVELOPMENT OF LITERACY & ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

About the Book: Literacy and education particularly elementary education significantly contribute to the processes of human capital formation within the Indian economy. In order to connect the socially disadvantaged groups i.e. SCs & STs to the current level of economic development pace it is crucial to address the issues of literacy and elementary education. The government of India as well as all state governments have taken various initiatives to improve literacy and elementary education; the CM School of Excellence is one of the recent flagship initiatives launched by Chief Minister Hemant Soren for educational reform in Jharkhand. The book presents the development of literacy and elementary education in India and Jharkhand and also highlights the major initiatives and public financing trends of central and state government of Jharkhand. About the Author: Dr. Umendra Singh M.A. Ph.D. (Economics) is an Assistant Professor in the University Department of Economics at Vinoba Bhave University Hazaribag Jharkhand where he has been since 2008. He has published numerous research papers in international national and regional journals and presented at various conferences. His research interests focus on social sector development with current work in health education agricultural economics and industrial economics. His recent publication is the book titled Development of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises. Dr. Singh also edits the Vinoba Bhave Journal of Economics and under his supervision three Ph.D. degrees have been awarded with five Ph.D. scholars and one D.Litt. scholar currently under his guidance. He holds various administrative positions and is actively involved in social extension activities at Vinoba Bhave University.
