Development of new antidiabetic drug from medicinal plant genomic res.

Genomic research on medicinal plants particularly those unexplored plants around the globe can produce many important molecules/drugs for many life threatening diseases like cancer cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Till now only few of the medicinal plants have been sequenced and more and more genome sequencing projects are coming up along with next-generation sequencing technology. Genome sequence information and linkage between gene-to-metabolite for many medicinal plants having anti-diabetic property will definitely help in the identification of next generation anti-diabetic drug from medicinal plants.
