Development of SNMP Agent in JAVA for Network Management

Agents are management entities used in network environments to assist in supervision fault prevention control and resolution of possible error situations. These entities obtain data from devices and if used rationally and optimally can enable effective control of a business environment where there is equipment from different manufacturers operating systems based on numerous platforms proprietary management interfaces and in short a wide range of variables that hinder homogeneous management. Due to the heterogeneity of networks this study used the JAVA programming language because of its compatibility with a larger number of devices a situation that occurs due to its virtual machine which is already supported on several platforms. The JAVA language together with the management potential that the SNMP protocol offers when working with Management Databases was employed in order to obtain a tool that enables greater interaction between the network administrator and the managed environment.
