Development of Unit Hydrograph for Priyadarshini Watershed

About The Book

Man has recognized a relationship between rainfall and runoff since the beginning of civilization. Only within the last century however have hydrologic principles been developed into a science. For the design of storm sewers and culverts the required pipe or culvert diameter is typically based on based on conveyance capacity for the peak discharge and a hydrograph As a watershed becomes more urbanized the impact of more impervious area decreased potential for infiltration and loss of natural depression storage will change the response to rainfall and thus the shape (peak and time base) of the resulting runoff hydrograph. The runoff could be obtained either from observed data of runoff or rainfall runoff relationship using regression equations such unit hydrograph information can be highly useful for estimating peak rate of runoff which in turn can be helpful for designing soil and water conservation structures for planning water resource development programmes in areas having similar agro climatic conditions. Keeping these in view the project was undertaken with the objective to develop the unit hydrograph for Priyadarshini watershed.
