Devvrat

Devavrat is the most important character in Mahabharat written by Maharishi Vedvyas. He was made heir-apparent of the Hasitnapur kingdom but ceded his rights for his father Shantanu's happiness. Because of his terrible oaths he became famous as Bhisma. Devavrat was blessed by his father to live as he wishes. He played major role in the political affairs of the kingdom for four generations.
