Diabetes Mellitus in Children: An Uncontrolled Chaos

The Global burden of Diabetes Mellitus is increasing on children. Countries like ''India'' are now termed as Global Capital of Diabetes Mellitus. Along with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus which presents itself in early childhood the susceptibility of pubertal and pre-pubertal adolescents to develop Type 2 Diabetes is increasing as they are being subjected to nutritional transition and an obesogenic environment. This results in additional risk of such children in developing serious chronic illnesses due to underlying diabetes. The pathway of oral disease and diabetes mellitus of children can also be linked. Thus a team of health care workers is required to work in harmony with each other to help reduce co-morbidities of thediabetic child.
