The basic foundations of patient education such as philosophy learning and assessing the demand for and results from educational interventions have made significant strides forward in recent years. Various other improvements are either visible (such as self-management planning for chronic sickness) or in the process of being developed (mental health psychoeducation and education in morally problematic areas). And others (such as patient education delivery) are always evolving as health services are structured and new technology is adopted among other things. This book tracks and examines these shifts in the political landscape. It takes advantage of the plethora of reviews and meta-analyses that are now accessible and presents the findings of those studies in a more comprehensive context. The objective I believe should be to do an integrated study of new improvements in patient education every 5 years or so with the purpose of measuring progress toward attaining the quality and availability requirements that our patients deserve.
