Digitalization In Prosthodontics

Intraoral scanners (IOSs) are medical devices based on 3D measurement systems that are able to capture information on the shape and size of dental arches and to reproduce 3D models of the teeth and soft tissues of the oral cavity thus allowing complete digitalization of the mouth anatomy [12]. Currently commercially available IOSs are based on different noncontact optical technologies and principles [3]. IOS technology aims to overcome some of the major limitations of traditional dental impressions which are time-consuming and are not comfortable for patients and to implement a fully digitalized orthodontic workflow from 2D image acquisition up to 3D modeling and treatment planning.
