<p>The short-story also known as afsaana is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature despite its relative youth. As a sensitive and conscious artist Farida Zain has made the problems of the common man of the present day her subject matter. Basically in her stories she has presented the incidents of the poor laborers and downtrodden characters in the right scenes whose lives are bright with their efforts but their faces have lost color. Her stories also have that color of social consciousness which makes art related to life.
