Transformation of agriculture has become necessary because 68.80 percent people of our population are living in rural areas but the prevailing condition of rural areas presents a very dismal picture. 58 percent population directly or indirectly is dependent on it for their livelihood and sustenance. It is the backbone of Indian economy and contributes nearly 14.10 percent of GDP (2011-12). Presently agriculture sector is facing the number of problems such as decreasing crop yield increasing nutrient deficiency in soil increasing temperature irregular monsoon decreasing share in GDP and food to growing population. Over the period of time it has been realized that the traditional methods of agriculture in the country neither are profitable nor capable of generating and/or supporting other economic pursuits. Therefore the traditional methods of agriculture need to be transformed into modern commercial agriculture.
