<p>A potential revolution in military affairs appears to be on the verge of fully revealing itself within the next two decades. Based on the success of past and future demonstrations of directed energy weapon (DEW) technology and continued senior leader emphasis within the Department of Defense it is likely that DEWs will be deployed on tactical airborne platforms by 2025. As tactical DEWs are fielded the dynamic and demanding mission of close air support (CAS) will still exist and need to embrace this new technology.
