About The Book:- Development of various sciences invoked the Medical Council of India (MCI) New Delhi to start a department of Emergency Medicine in Medical Colleges of India. Skills of various specialists are pooled to save a life in peril. Disaster of various natures may be man-made or natural were taking toll of many precious lives. This compelled the MCI to think about Emergency Medicine. Rehabilitation is a process which is very closely linked with medical relief. V arious undergraduate/Post graduate Physiotherapy Institutions in the country felt to include Disaster Rehabilitation in their Curriculum of teaching. The recent developments explained above encouraged me to write this book Disaster Mitigation as a first hand information which I dedicate to my late father; Dr. K. R. Dilkash as a hearty homage. About The Author:- Prof. Ashok Kr. Sharma was born and brought up in Lucknow. His initial education included a three year LLB couse after obtaining graduation degree in Science from Lucknow University Lucknow in 1961. He went to join IPH New Delhi to undergo further graduation in Rehabilitation Science (Physiotherapy; Occupational therapy & Artificial Limbs) in 1965. He left for USA to undergo post graduation in Rehabilitation with special intrest in Propioceptive Neuro – muscular facilitation (PNF) under Margret Knott in 1969. In 1972 he joined Artificial limb and Prosthetic Centre at K.G. Medical College Lucknow which was upgraded to Rehabilitation and Artificial Limb Centre (RALC) after receiving a grant of Rs. 1.25 Crores from National defence fund of the Prime minister of India. In 1983 he became a Lecturer in Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (DPMR) KGs Medical College Lucknow and became Asistant Prof and Subsequently retired in 1997. However he continued his service in a private sector medical college at Lucknow as Prof Director to head Institute of Allied Health Sciences and Research at Lucknow. Till now he continues to work with
