DISTRACTION OSTEOGENESIS- EXTRAORAL VS INTRAORAL DEVICES

This book presents a comparative clinical analysis of Distraction Osteogenesis in oral and maxillofacial surgery focusing on the use of internal and external distraction devices. Based on combined data from 43 patients aged 1.4 to 25 years it examines treatment outcomes using various systems such as MID push-screw intraoral distractors spring/coil mechanisms and external devices like RED II and halo frames. The findings highlight differences in distraction length consolidation period complication rates and patient satisfaction. Internal devices were found to be more effective in managing mild to moderate deformities with fewer complications and higher compliance while external devices offered superior control in severe deficiencies despite increased mechanical challenges.
