The editor of this book thinks it necessary to inform the reader that he made considerable alterations in it with a view to its improvement. Many antiquated expressions were obliterated; many grammatical errors corrected; and some of the poems placed at the end of the meditations on account of their being not at all appropriate were expunged from the work.
