Domestic violence is recognized as the most pervasiveform of violence against women and almost allcountries in the world experience this scourge. Yetit was only in 1993 that the United Nations adoptedthe Declaration on the Elimination of Violenceagainst Women the first international human rightsinstrument to deal specifically with the issue. Untilrecently data from low and middle income countrieswas limited. In particular few representativestudies had been conducted in Africa and the MiddleEast. This book explores risk factors and healthoutcomes associated with wife-beating as reported byEgyptian women throughout the country.
