Driven by Hope chronicles the life of author Ansu Kamara from his turbulent childhood in Sierra Leone to his coming-of-age in New York City. Kamara was born in a village in rural Africa to loving Muslim parents and as he grew he encountered everything from smallpox to snakes and shipwrecks to violent military coups.
