Dubrovsky

Dubrovsky one of Pushkins most exciting literary pieces chronicles the exploits of an aristocrat-turned-brigand and his bold plan for retaliation. Together with the short story Egyptian Nights it is published here. The son of a landowner whose property had been taken by an evil and dishonest general is Dubrovsky. Dubrovsky turns to crime after his father dies and his devoted servants destroy the family home with fire. But in order to fulfil his ultimate goal of exacting revenge on his father he must use less violent methods. He enters the Generals home under the guise of a French instructor and begins seducing the Generals daughter. Dubrovsky demonstrates the extraordinary storytelling talent of Russias greatest poet by challenging our faith in societal institutions particularly the law. Alexander Pushkin wrote lyric and narrative poems but his masterwork is the verse novel Eugene Onegin.
