He was meticulous in his application of first pen strokes up then pen strokes down then side-to-side then angular four different diagonals. Often he scribbled on both sides of the sheet then tore it. Sometimes if he was smoking late at night taking the pages and burning them watching the ashes scatter. There was a chance of course he was slightly lunatic.
