Early education in the Villa of S��o Sebasti��o

The author analyzes the documents produced by public teachers and inspectors of public primary education in the town of São Sebastião on the north coast of São Paulo in the period from 1840 when the first schools were created in the more distant districts of the town to 1889 the end of the imperial period. Through these we identified the teaching materials used and the methodology employed by the teachers to develop the children's learning.
