This book explores the persistent colonial themes in Mulk Raj Anand's major novels-Untouchable Coolie Two Leaves and a Bud The Big Heart and Death of a Hero. These works unveil the brutal realities of British Imperialism and its dehumanizing impact on India's marginalized: the oppressed castes bonded labourers women and colonial soldiers. Anand's Death of a Hero in particular offers a poignant portrayal of an Indian soldier used and discarded by the British army exposing the psychological toll of colonial wars and the betrayal of nationalist aspirations. Across his fiction Anand critiques systemic exploitation caste and class oppression and the complicity of Indians who adopted colonial values for personal gain.
