Economic Analysis of Implementing PET/CT Procedure in Croatia

Inefficient health care system and chronic deficit of health insurance funds hinder the proper introduction of new expensive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. During the last decade positron emission tomography combined with computerized tomography (PET/CT) has proved to be a valuable tool for proper oncology diagnostics and staging worldwide. The introduction of this expensive but important diagnostic procedure on Croatian health care market may have a long-term positive impact both in terms of health improvement as well as economically. The aim of this work is to investigate the economical impact of PET/CT diagnostic procedure.
