Economic Analysis of Rice Value Chain in Kano State Nigeria

About The Book

Agricultural development projects and policy makers in Nigeria have focused more on the production sub-sector of the commodity value chain rather than all the sub-sectors. This has led to an increase in production of agricultural commodities over the decades and a neglect of processing and marketing sub-sectors. This has led to a gap in knowledge of the other sectors. Value chain approach has a holistic approach in identifying with all the sub-sectors of the commodity value chain. This book gives an insight to the rice value chain in Kano one of the most populous cities in the West African sub-region. The book provides information on actors and supporters of the rice value chain and how the network is organised in terms of relationships linkages and governance. How value is added and who has the highest margin as the commodity moves from the point of production and processing at rural clusters through consumption at urban centers. The use of social net-mapping adds value to the book as qualitative data are being analyzed qualitatively and the result presented in a cob-web like model. This book should be useful to professional in agricultural marketing field and policy makers.
