Economy and Sustainability in Amazonia

In the first part the book draws a parallel between the ideals of sustainability advocated around the world and the actions taken in Brazil and the Amazon to achieve this sustainability. In the second part it analyses the environmental management process carried out in the Amazon and Acre as well as its importance in overcoming the challenge of fostering economic growth without compromising the region's ecological sustainability. It points to the commercial exploitation of forest biodiversity as the main natural productive vocation of the Amazon as an inexorable way out. In the third and final part it discusses and proposes the formation of a political pact to promote the Amazon's greatest competitive advantage: forest biodiversity.
