Over the last few decades the system for assessing clinical skills has undergone a profound evolution in favor of methods that are closer to medical practice. These approaches aim to increase the validity and reliability of clinical assessment compared to conventional written and oral examinations. Among these techniques the Objective Clinical Evaluation in Multiple Stations (ECOSM) is the equivalent of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). ECOSM involves a series of stations where candidates must solve problems within specific timeframes. Each competency is broken down into easily assessable tasks making it possible to evaluate achievement of objectives relating to knowledge skills and even certain aspects of professionalism. This fair and authentic tool is recognized for its effectiveness reliability and validity in clinical assessments.
