She is newly married to Kishangarh's Deputy Commissioner in the state of Bihar. The story begins with Tihar jail where she was detained in a VIP cell. Shruti was raped mercilessly by Salim Yadav an infamous man with a strong political background.Shruti is hell-bent on making sure Salim is punished. But the corrupt state government disappoints her at every step. All her attempts are met with postponements and dismissals. The Edge of Desire describes her journey that lands her into the field of politics. She takes this step to get into the system so that she can make sure Salim is convicted for his actions. Sharad Malviya the leader of the opposition party in Bihar takes her under his party to stand for the approaching Lok Sabha elections. The book describes how she gradually focuses all her energy on bettering the security for women in India and struggles to try and bring changes in India's rape laws.
