Nowadays it’s common to value academic performance more than liberal art education in school education. The same happens with the geography education. Many geography teachers feel uncertain about which part of geography is more significant and why. Under such circumstance the author intends to arouse the awareness of the public especially geography teachers to understand and reflect the unique role of geography on individual development. Meanwhile the author hopes that geography education should focus on liberal art education by making the teachers aim at cultivating key competencies and promoting individual development rather than emphasizing on geographic knowledge and grades.
