Educational training as a way to improve medication adherence
English

About The Book

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent epileptic seizures. These can be successfully controlled by drug therapy which enables those affected to live a seizure-free life. A key prerequisite for successful therapy is medication adherence which can be promoted through targeted educational training. A systematic literature search was conducted in 3 scientific databases to answer the research question How does educational training influence medication adherence in people aged 15 and over with epilepsy?. Five studies met the previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The evaluation and analysis of these studies indicate that educational training has a positive impact on medication adherence in people with epilepsy aged 15 years and older. However there is a need for further research into the optimal duration intensity and design of this intervention.
