Effect of Corcumine in the cerebellum of hypothyroid Rat

About The Book

Thyroid hormone has a tremendous role in brain especially during development. Alteration in the level of the hormone affects on growth and ageing of animals. One of the most important functions performed by thyroid hormones however is the tight regulation of cellular oxygen consumption and consequent generation of ROS in several tissues including brain. In the present study it was found that hypothyroidism induced alterations in antioxidant enzymes oxidative stress parameters and histological changes in the developing erebellum. The current study reveals that curcumin decreases the activity of all the antioxidant enzymes. This may be due to its free radical-scavenging capacity. It reduces the normal levels of free radicals in the tissues and making an oxidantdeficient state. The other explanation for this may be it is a physiological adaptation that under low levels of substrates the activities of enzymes are reduced. Hypothyroidism is associated with hypometabolic state and reduced oxygen consumption and thereby exerts less ROS. Under low levels of substrates the antioxidant enzymes activity may be become lower which is reflected in this study.
