The electronic apex locator (EAL) machine has attracted a great deal of attention because it operates on the basis of the electrical impedance rather than by a visual inspection. The EAL is one of the breakthroughs that brought electronic science into the traditionally empirical endodontic practice. EALs help to reduce the treatment time and the radiation dose which may be higher with conventional radiographic measurements.
